MAA Expects Vehicle Sales in September Maintained at August 2022 Level
Base on the report that released by the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA), total industry volume (TIV) which includes passenger car sales for August 2022 was 36 per cent higher than July 2022, which was at 48,922 units. MAA said this is due to fulfilment of bookings by car companies which many bookings being received prior to 30th June 2022.
Commercial vehicle sales increased 179.6 per cent from 2,448 units last year August to 6,845 units this year. The year-to-date sales are similarly leading 2021 at the same stage with 50,109 units registered so far against 29,977 for 2022, representing a 67 per cent jump.
Meanwhile, total vehicle production for commercial vehicle was up year-on-year (y-o-y) at 5,096 units in August from 1,064 units, while the YTD figure stood at 32,966 units against 18,959 units in the corresponding period last year, which was 73.9 per cent increase.
MAA expects vehicle sales in September 2022 to be maintained at August 2022 level. The Association also said the shortage of chips and components will continue to affect some brands.
