MAA Expects Lower Vehicle Sales Volume in October
As compared to September last year, the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) said, the vehicle sales in Malaysia increased by 26 per cent to 56,444 units from 44,666 units in September this year. In particular, the sales for commercial vehicles also rose to 5, 022 units from 4,399 units.
Sales volume for September 2020 was 7 per cent higher than August 2020, on a month-on-month basis.
According to MAA, the on-going promotional campaigns and higher production of models in September have contributed to the higher sales volume in September 2020.
Year-to-date (YTD), sales volume for new commercial vehicles was 19 per cent lower at 31,481 units from 38,866 units registered over the same period a year ago.
On the total production side, 51,897 vehicles were produced in September 2020 as compared with 45,101 units in the same month last year. The production of passenger vehicle increased to 49,966 units in September 2020 as compared to 42,369 in September 2019, while the production of commercial vehicle reduced to 2,021 units from 2,732 units previously.
Meanwhile on a YTD basic, September 2020 saw a 42 per cent or 11,709 units decline in commercial vehicle production to 13,982 units from the corresponding period of the previous year.
The MAA expected that the sales volume in October 2020 to be lower than September 2020 level due to the impact from the implementation of conditional movement control order (CMCO) and consumers being cautious with the ending of loans moratorium on 30th September 2020.
