Port Klang to Enforce Haulier Weight Limits Starting May 2025

Port Klang Malaysia

The main objective of this weight limit enforcement is to minimise road damage and lower maintenance cost in Port Klang while ensuring road safety.

Import Transactions Will Be Verified at the Booking Stage

The Port Klang Authority (PKA) is set to implement restrictions on hauliers with loads exceeding the Combined Vehicle Weight or Berat Gabungan Kendaraan (BGK). This new rule applies to vehicles entering and exiting Port Klang, effective May 1, 2025.

According to the official statement from the PKA, the decision to restrict overcapacity hauliers was made during the National Logistics Task Force (NTLF) meeting, chaired by Transport Minister Anthony Loke, on Nov 25, last year.

PKA Chairman Ean Yong Hian Wah received an official directive on Feb 18 “to fully enforce restrictions that prevent haulage trucks from transporting loads exceeding the BGK to or from Port Klang in accordance to existing regulations.”

The main objective from the restriction is to minimise road damage that has tarnished the reputation of Port Klang, endangered road users, and caused maintenance cost to skyrocket. One of the main factors that contribute to the road damage is overcapacity hauliers entering and exiting the port.

To implement the restriction, all import transactions will be verified at the booking stage and, if the total load exceeds the BGK, the bookings will be rejected. Vehicles will also be weighed at the port entrance for export transactions. If a haulier exceeds the GVW limit three times, entry to the port will be denied.

The BGK is defined as the combined weight of the empty haulier, the empty trailer, and the container’s verified gross mass.
