MAA Expects Sales in October will be Similar to September Levels
The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) has released the country’s vehicle sales data recently. The new vehicle sales were up 53 per cent, from 44,227 units in September 2021 to 67,659 units. Sales of passenger vehicles accounted for 64,701 units while commercial vehicles comprised 4,688 units in September.
Commercial vehicle sales were up 27.3 per cent to 7,599 units in September 2022 from 5,969 units in the same month a year ago, while passenger vehicle sales were up 57 per cent to 60,060 units in September 2022 from 38,258 units for the same period last year.
The total production was up from 45,972 units produced in September 2021 as compared to 69,398 units in September 2022. Year-to-date, vehicle production increased from 303,996 vehicles to 508,761.
In terms of vehicle production, the commercial vehicle production increased 37 per cent from 3,416 units last September to 4,688 units in the same month this year. Passenger vehicle production was also up with an increase of 52 per cent, from 42,556 in September last year to 64,701 units this September.
Meanwhile, the Total Industry Volume (TIV) for September 2022 was 0.1% higher than August 2022 (which was at 67,560 units).
On the market outlook, MAA expects that sales in October will be similar to September levels, with car companies continuing to fulfil many of the bookings received prior to 30th June 2022.
“Supply and chips problem are still ongoing and affecting some markets,” added MAA.
