The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) announced higher vehicle sales in March 2021 of 7,400, up from 2,268 from the year before, making for a 226% rise in the recovering market.
MAA Figures Show the Market is Starting to Gain Steam Again
According to the MAA, commercial vehicles sales are continuing to show progression with the year to date sales figures showing a strong 71% increase from last year with 16,218 sales, as opposed to 9,510 from last year.
Production is also on the up with 4,119 new commercial vehicles produced in March, as opposed to 1,570 from the previous year, marking a 162% growth, as well as a year to date total of 11,497 vehicles produced, which is a 66% increase on 6,937 in 2020.
The MAA believe the higher sales are due to a range of new model ranges, as well as companies wanting to purchase commercial vehicles before the end of the financial year. Perhaps the major year-on-year difference however was the first Movement Control Order (MCO), which was in place in March 2020 and which heavily affected sales.
The MAA predict that April will yield the same level of sales as March, with a strong recurring campaign by car companies to retain March’s improved sales.
