DICV Celebrates 10 Years of Partnership with Fuso Trucks
Since its founding in 2012, DICV has produced and exported approximately 35,000 Fuso vehicles while strengthening sales of Bharat Benz, a commercial vehicle brand exclusively for the Indian market. DICV’s headquarters and production plant are located in Oragadam, Chennai, on the east coast of India, where global manufacturers and software development companies are concentrated. DICV employs more than 4,000 people and has rapidly increased its production capacity over the last decade.
MFTBC and DICV together form a DTA under the umbrella of Daimler Truck, and cooperate in a wide range of fields such as product development, research, production, and export business. MFTBC and DICV are close to each other, as some Bharat-Benz vehicles such as the “914R” with a gross vehicle weight of 9 tons and the “1217C” with a gross vehicle weight of 13 tons have adopted the structure of Fuso’s medium and large vehicles. In addition to producing Bharat-Benz vehicles for the Indian market, the Oragadam plant also produces Fuso vehicles and exports them from South America to the Middle East all over the world.
The largest export destination for Fuso vehicles produced by DICV is Saudi Arabia. The Fuso vehicles produced by DICV are medium and heavy-duty trucks with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 9 to 40 tons to meet the various needs and applications of their customers. So far, more than 50,000 vehicles have been shipped overseas from DICV, of which about 35,000 are Fuso vehicles. As a member of the Daimler Truck Group, DICV also supports parts procurement and production of important parts such as transmissions. DICV is an indispensable partner for MFTBC and also plays an important role in the Daimler Truck Group.
In 2021, DICV’s exports increased 25 per cent year-on-year as the epidemic of the new coronavirus continued around the world. Like MFTBC, DICV is also working on sustainability throughout the value chain, including the production sector. As its business grows, DICV has increased its commitment to the environment and sustainability. The latest equipment at the Oragadam plant already uses only reclaimed water and is expected to achieve carbon-free operations by 2025. To address this goal, solar panels have been used with a total power generation of 3.3 MW on the premises of the factory. MFTBC, together with DICV, will continue to work toward the realisation of DTA’s vision of providing mobility solutions that realise better lives and environments for people and the earth.
