This milestone marks a significant step towards a greener and more sustainable transportation system in Sarawak.

During the handover ceremony at Scania Malaysia in Kuching, Khaimal Borneo and Scania signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the purchase of two additional NBG Euro 5 coaches to further solidify their commitment to sustainable mobility.

Highlighting the importance of sustainable transport, Dr Elena Gregoria Chai Chin Fern,  Principal Assistant Secretary of the Arts, Culture and Heritage Section in the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry & Performing Arts Sarawak, stated: Energy is one of the largest contributors of Sarawak’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and this creates opportunities for emission reductions. Thus, green mobility is crucial. Therefore, I would like to congratulate Khaimal Borneo and Scania for taking the initiative to achieve a more sustainable transportation system within the tourism industry.”

Echoing this commitment, Mohamad Fikri Zainol Majid, Managing Director of Khaimal Borneo, added: “Our purchase of the Scania NBG Euro V tour coach aligns with our commitment to Sarawak’s Sustainability Vision 2030. The New Bus Generation of Scania could save up to nine per cent in fuel and emissions, without compromising on performance and drivability. The most significant savings come from enhanced engine efficiency and improved cruise control with active prediction.”

Designed with drivers and passengers in mind, the Scania NBG features a reinforced chassis for enhanced safety and advanced driver-assistance technologies such as Lane Departure Warning (LDW) in its standard safety system, which includes Electronic Brake System (EBS) with Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) and Traction Control.

For drivers, the bus provides an ergonomic and highly visible workspace to improve operational efficiency. Passengers, meanwhile, are said to benefit from a smooth ride thanks to a forgiving suspension, an efficient gearbox with seamless transmission and a well-regulated climate system that ensures comfort throughout the journey. The low-noise environment further enhances the overall travel experience.

Beyond the bus’s fuel-efficient powertrain, driving style plays a key role in optimising fuel consumption. Rini Sabir Mässgård, Dealer Director of East Region, Scania Southeast Asia, explained: “Scania Digital Services, including Driver Training and Coaching, could further reduce fuel consumption and emissions. Combined with the exceptional drivability of Scania coaches, advanced driver assistance systems and top-tier maintenance services, these solutions help operators achieve even greater savings. We hope more industry players would adopt these strategies to reach their sustainability goals.”

To further support its growth, Khaimal Borneo is leveraging on Scania Financial Services that allows the company to focus on business expansion and profitability while benefiting from flexible financial solutions.

Founded in 2018 and headquartered in Kuching, Khaimal Borneo specialises in transportation and rental services that showcase the best of Sarawak. The company also offers travel agency services, including local tour arrangements, to provide visitors with a seamless and memorable experience in the region.
