In Malaysia, coaches are used by 70 per cent of trav- ellers, according to the MAN Global’s website. Not surprisingly, one third of the providers rely on coach- es with MAN chassis.
MAN heavy vehicles have come a long way since they were brought in during the 1980s and their functionality in Malaysia as well as the world has increased vastly.
MAN is one of the leaders in city bus and touring coach construction, and is successful as a truck manufacturer renowned for its competence and innovative ideas.
In Malaysia, MAN Truck & Bus Malaysia (MTBM) has provided solutions for the special needs of its custom- ers such as Alam Flora and Syarikat Pasarana Negara Berhad (SPNB), a public transport company.
The most popular bus brand in Europe, MAN is widely used in Malaysia, either as a city or touring bus. The chassis is body-friendly and reliable, and has a long service life. Besides power, it has low consumption val- ues, and is environmentally friendly and economical.
To serve the city’s waste disposal needs, Alam Flora purchased 158 MAN CLA 18.280 4x2 trucks. The ve- hicles are from MAN’s production in India while their bodies were fitted by local body-building company DRB-HICOM.
Some trucks are equipped with rear-loader bodies and lifters for the waste containers while others are fitted with bodies to function as road sweepers. The robust driveline comprises a 280-hp six-cylinder in-line engine and nine-speed overdrive gearbox. Furthermore the vehicles are equipped with a wear-free exhaust valve brake, which enhances engine braking and lengthens service brake life.
The medium-length long cab also has a bunk for use during breaks, ergonomic seats, adjustable steering wheel, and easy-to-reach function switches.
The MAN CLA offers proven technology at competitive prices and is adapted to the demands of Asian and Afri- can markets. Whether it is a long-haul truck, semitrailer tractor, tipper or mobile mixer, it meets the varied de- mands of long-haul, building site and distribution traffic, or as a heavy-duty vehicle. It is popular because of its long service life and ease of servicing.
