Malaysia’s flood victims get help from MAN Truck & Bus M
The recent devastating floods that affected the East Coast states in Malaysia took a massive toll on more than 200,000 people. Naturally, all would want to return to their normal lives as soon as possible but having witnessed the devastation first hand, many were finding it difficult to even get started. It was good news that some companies were looking at ways to ease the burden of those directly affected by the disaster.
One such company was MAN Truck & Bus Malaysia (MTBM) that recently joined the massive national drive to ease the bur- den of these flood victims, while serving as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility to support impacted families and commu- nities as they were recovering from the worst floods the country had seen.
MTBM Managing Director Hartmut Mueller said: “We would like to reassure them that we are on hand to help them as far as possible. This is certainly part of MTMB’s social obligation, but more than that, we are giving our staff the opportunity to ex- perience humility on a different level, and achieve a sense of personal satisfaction by helping those in need.”
The company’s aid was initiated by MTBM’s employees, who made their personal contributions as a show of support and goodwill to the flood victims. The aid came in the form of essen- tial items like food supplies, drinking water, toiletries, blankets and diapers that were delivered personally to the affected fami- lies by its employees during a 2-day trip to Kelantan.
Among the key people who represented the company were from the Marketing department, Human Resource department and Sales department, who headed to Pantai Timur to deliver aid to the affected families in Limau Kasturi, Kelantan on 29th January this year after the waters had subsided.
“We have personally witnessed the damages that resulted from the disaster and hopefully this little contribution can ease their burden and put a smile on their faces. I hope more Ma-
laysians will chip in to extend their assistance to the victims so that they can get their lives back to normal after the floods,” added Mueller.
MAN Truck and Bus Malaysia said corporate responsibility was part of its corporate and leadership culture and drove its vision and commitments to sustainable value creation that in the long- term translated into economic value, combined with a strong sense of responsibility towards the environment and all of its stakeholders – whether they were employees, customers, in- vestors, or society at large.
