LGM and Prasarana Malaysia to Undertake R
Malaysian Rubber Board (LGM) and Prasarana Malaysia Bhd signed a memorandum of understanding (MoA) recently to under- take research on the Ekoprena eco-friendly green retread tyres.
“The tyre which uses expoxidised natural rubber would be suitable for ve- hicles, as it has lower rolling resistance that enhances fuel efficiency and improves wet grip for safety. In addition, the production of this tyre that is made from green materials and natural renewable resources, is only about one-third of the synthetic rubber produced using petroleum source,” said Datuk Ahmad Hamzah, the Chairman of LGM at the signing ceremony.
Under the three-year MoA, 800 Ekoprena retread tyres would be used on the rear of RapidKL buses in the Klang Valley. The test would be divided into three phases, starting with 10 buses plying routes in southern Cheras.
According to Tan Sri Ismail Adam, the Chairman of Prasarana Malaysia, the tyres would be tested on the roads for its durability in all road and weather conditions. There would be a full implementation of Ekoprena tyres on all RapidKL buses once the company was satisfied with the data results.
It was also revealed that LGM planned to commercialise its eco-friendly retread tyre, Ekoprena, in two years’ time.
Once it was commercialised, LGM hoped to increase the production ca- pacity of Ekoprena rubber gradually to meet the projected 10 per cent or 300,000 tonnes of global demand by 2020.
The cooperation between LGM and Prasarana was one of the Entry Point Projects under the National Key Economic Areas, which fell under EPP4: Commercialising Ekoprena and Pureprena.
This project, with an allocation of RM1.7 million for three years, was moni- tored by the Performance Management and Delivery Unit

“采用环氧化天然胶制成的轮胎，适合车子使 用，因为它拥有较低的滚动阻力，能够加强燃油 效益和改善湿地抓地力，带来安全。 此外，这 个采用绿色原材料和天然再生资源制造的轮胎， 所消耗的石油资源是合成胶产品的三分之一。” 马来西亚橡胶局主席拿督阿曼韩扎(Datuk Ah- mad Hamzah) 在签约典礼上表示。
在这个为期三年的谅解备忘录下，800条Ekopre- na翻胎将被安装于巴生河谷吉隆坡快捷通巴士的 后车轮。该测试将分成3个阶段进行，从10辆蕉 赖南部的巴士开始。
据Prasarana马来西亚公司总裁丹斯里依斯迈阿 当(Tan Sri Ismail Adam)表示，该轮胎进行 道路测试，以测试其在所有的路况和天气下的耐 用性。一旦公司对测试数据的效果感到满意，吉 隆坡快捷通就会完全使用Ekoprena轮胎。
马来西亚橡胶局也透露说，他们计划在两年内将 环保的Ekoprena翻胎商业化。
