MAN Truck and Bus (M) Sdn Bhd (MTBM) announced recently that it was introducing a new training programme, MAN ProfiDrive, which was tailored towards individual customer requirements. The new sector-specific training helps address fuel economy and driving safety for particular transport assignments.
MAN ProfiDrive: Tailored Training for Meeting Sector-Specific Customer Needs in Malaysia
The launch of the programme was officiated by Datuk Ab Aziz Kaprawi, Malaysia’s Deputy Transport Minister, at the Malaysia Commercial Vehicle Expo (MCVE) 2017.
Hartmut Mueller, Managing Director of MTBM, said: “This new training programme that focuses on the customer’s specific transport task enables us to more effectively help our customers lower their Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). By equipping drivers with better vehicle handling and economical driving techniques, the training can help cut back on fuel consumption by as much as 10 per cent and reduce the need for constant vehicle maintenance.”
The majority of the sector-specific ProfiDrive training for the drivers is hands-on and carried out with the drivers’ own loaded vehicles, which further increases the long-term learning effect of the training. The programme could be conducted at any location and covers practical driving skills as well as theoretical aspects of safety, economy and vehicle inspection.
With safety as a focal point, drivers are not only taught safe driving principles and given comprehensive knowledge on tyres, gearboxes and axles, safety regulations and accident prevention, they are also equipped with practical driving skills such as how to manage critical driving situations and handle different road surfaces, avoid obstacles; perform emergency braking and evasive manoeuvres, among others.
Apart from the new sector-specific training module, the MAN ProfiDrive portfolio includes traditional modules for drivers and fleet managers on fuel-efficient driving and off-road driving training, modules for tankers and heavy-duty transporters as well as programmes that are specifically tailored to the bus and transporter sectors.
During the MCVE, MTBM also showcased a specially configured truck for the Malaysia market that helps to save costs and increase safety – the MAN EfficientLine. With options like the AeroPackage, idle shutdown and cruise control features, MAN says fleet owners’ cost reduction target could be achieved easily. Features included in the truck like the Anti-Spin Regulator (ASR), MAN BrakeMatic (EBS) and Retarder system also help to enhance safety and minimise danger.
“Since the beginning, MAN has stayed committed to provide top-quality, exceptionally reliable commercial vehicles that are perfectly tailored to our customer’s needs. We will continue to offer products and solutions to help fleet owners decrease their fleets’ life-cycle cost, while placing a strong emphasis on safety and reliability,” said Mueller.
