The Malaysian Ministry of Transport hopes to see the My50 initiative extended into next year as part of the 2025 Budget, which is set to be presented in October, according to a report by the Bernama News Agency on 20 August 2024.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke emphasised the initiative’s significance which offers affordable public transportation options and helps reduce traffic congestion, especially with the continuous growth of the My50 pass users.

“We’ve observed a notable increase in funding, such as the My50 initiative, which saw its budget rise from RM100 million to RM200 million last year. I am hopeful that this initiative will continue into next year,” Loke stated.

Currently, the My50 pass is used by more than 200,000 people each month.

“Rail users in the Klang Valley now average nearly 900,000 daily, and combined with bus services, we see over 1.1 million riders each day,” Loke said during a press conference following the Signing Ceremony of the Parking Space Sale Agreement between Malaysia Rapid Transit System (MRTS) and Coronade Properties Sdn Bhd.

Loke stressed the importance of ongoing efforts to improve the public transportation system, particularly to increase accessibility for more residents, especially in the Klang Valley.

He acknowledged that further improvements are needed to tackle traffic congestion in the Klang Valley. “I hope the Ministry of Finance will consider the various initiatives and projects we have proposed,” he added.

The My50 initiative provides an unlimited travel pass for RM50 per month, offering access to rail and bus services operated by Prasarana in the Klang Valley.
