Port Klang Roads Construction Must Use Stronger Materials – Minister Nanta

Port Klang Malaysia

The roads to and from Port Klang will mainly be used by heavy vehicles, hence the need for stronger materials.

RM107 Million Has Been Allocated to Build and Upgrade Roads around Port Klang

Malaysia Works Minister, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, has proposed to use stronger and more resilient paving materials in the construction and upgrading of the Pulau Indah Ring Road and Klang North Port.

Nanta said that using more resilient paving materials will ensure a stronger road surface, especially because the infrastructure facilities are the main route for heavy vehicles to and from Port Klang.

Last month, when tabling Budget 2025, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that RM107 million would be allocated for the construction and upgrading of the roads at the Pulau Indah Ring Road and North Klang Port to spur the country’s logistics sector.

“So far, it is still in the planning stage. This project has been identified and mentioned in the tabling of Budget 2025, so the allocation is already there for us to start this project. We know that the road in this port area is used by heavy vehicles, such as container lorries and trucks with heavy loads. So, when we build infrastructure, we have to make sure it is the best that can accommodate that need,” he said, as quoted by the Bernama news agency, after the inauguration of the Malaysia Construction Academy (ABM) Tower Crane Training Site in the Central Region.

Regarding the ABM event, Nanta said a total of 600 individuals, including those involved in the tower crane field, will be trained through the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) by year-end.

He said the programme involving a collaboration between the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) and Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB) could produce skilled workers in the construction industry, thus reducing dependence on foreign workers.

“This collaboration is the result of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between MRCB and CIBD that was signed over a year ago. MRCB’s earnestness as an industry participant in helping TVET will provide an opportunity for trainees to earn a decent income of up to more than RM5,000 as tower crane operators,” he said.

He also encouraged the private sector to come forward in synergistic cooperation with CIDB to empower TVET in the field of construction.
