Isuzu will debut its ERGA FCV hydrogen bus, co-developed with Toyota, at Japan Mobility Show 2025, featuring zero CO₂ emissions, and fast refuelling.
ERGA FCV Proof of Isuzu’s Zero Carbon Commitment
Isuzu Motors Limited (Isuzu) plans to unveil its next-generation fuel cell (FC) route bus, the ERGA FCV, for the first time at the Japan Mobility Show 2025 in Tokyo, from October 30 to November 9, 2025. The bus will be exhibited as part of one of the event’s main programmes, the “Tokyo Tour 2035”.
The ERGA FCV is jointly developed with Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota). Isuzu is responsible for the planning, development, and design, while Toyota is in charge of the development of the FC system.
Based on the ERGA EV, a BEV flat-floor route bus launched by Isuzu last year, the ERGA FCV now utilises Toyota‘s FC system and hydrogen tanks, installed into the roof structure, thereby maintaining the original design. Installing the power supply on the roof also allows the bus’s layout to be barrier-free, thus improving the passengers’ convenience and safety.
The ERGA FCV generates electricity by inducing a chemical reaction between hydrogen stored in its tanks and oxygen from the air within the FC stack. Isuzu believes that the FC technology can overcome a longstanding issue faced by BEVs, which is energy replenishment, as hydrogen refuelling can be completed much more quickly. The FCV bus is also guaranteed to be CO₂ emission-free while driving, since it only emits water vapour.
The introduction of the ERGA FCV is part of Isuzu Transformation – Growth to 2030, its mid-term business plan. Through collaboration with various partners, the Tokyo-based company is committed to carbon-neutral solutions by proposing new mobility options.
