Rapid Bus‘ consideration stems from the positive response received from users in the Air Hitam and Farlim areas.
Still in Trial, the DRT Has Already Surpassed Initial Target of 100 Users per Day
Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd (Rapid Bus) is considering the possibility of including the Seberang Perai area in the Demand Responsive Transit (DRT) service in the state, according to a report by the Bernama News Agency on 21 August 2024.
Rapid Bus CEO, Muhammad Yazurin Sallij, noted that this consideration is driven by the positive response received from users in the Air Hitam and Farlim areas since the service was launched on 1 August.
“There is a possibility of expanding the service to Seberang Perai, but no decision has been made yet. We want to first assess how this DRT service can encourage more people to use public transportation,” he explained.
Although the service is currently in a trial phase until October 31, it has already surpassed the initial target of 100 users per day.
“During this trial period, we are gathering data on passenger numbers, user feedback, and the adequacy of the vans we provide, among other factors. This information will help us identify areas for improvement and guide future decisions on the service,” said Yazurin.
Yazurin also mentioned that Rapid Bus is evaluating the need to increase the number of vehicles for the service, especially with the upcoming addition of 300 vans, which will be delivered in phases from December 2024 to July 2025.
He explained that the DRT service is designed to enhance access to bus services, particularly for those in areas distant from main bus stops, making it easier for them to reach city centres like Komtar or Balik Pulau.
To use the DRT service, passengers need to download the Kumpool application, which offers access to 110 stops within a two-kilometre radius of the service area. The service operates daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
“This application is very user-friendly, and we also offer support through a call centre for those who need assistance with the app or have any questions. Our team is always ready to provide guidance as needed,” he said.
“In addition, we will be conducting roadshows periodically to explain and promote this service to the public,” Yazurin concluded.
