The Bus Lane Operates Weekdays from 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM
Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd, the operator of Rapid KL and MRT feeder bus services, has extended the dedicated bus lane on Jalan Ampang in collaboration with the Selangor Public Works Department (JKR).
First introduced on July 3, 2023, as a 3-kilometre stretch, the bus lane was expanded by an additional kilometre on February 17, 2025, covering two new sections. The first section runs from the entrance ramp of the Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (AKLEH) to the Jalan Mamanda 1 intersection, linking to the existing bus lane. The second section extends from the Bandar Baru Ampang bus stop and Jalan Wawasan Ampang intersection to the exit ramp of the Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Elevated Expressway (SUKE).
Currently, Rapid Bus and JKR are conducting a three-month assessment to evaluate travel time and traffic conditions along the expanded sections. The bus lane operates weekdays from 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM, aiming to enhance efficiency on key routes such as Route 300 (Pandan Indah Hub–Lebuh Ampang) and Route 303 (Hentian Mulia Jaya–Lebuh Ampang). Additionally, MRT feeder bus services in areas like Pandan Indah, Bukit Indah, Mulia Jaya, and Lembah Jaya are expected to benefit from improved service reliability.
This initiative aligns with Malaysia’s 12th Development Plan (RMK-12) and is backed by the Cabinet Committee on Traffic Congestion, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, with the Ministry of Transport serving as the lead secretariat.
According to Rapid Bus Acting CEO Ku Jamil Zakaria, the bus lane’s introduction in 2023 reduced travel times by 10 to 15 minutes and led to a 14.14% increase in ridership, with daily passengers rising from 12,819 to 14,631. “We hope that the improved efficiency and reduced travel time will encourage more city dwellers to switch to public transportation. Additionally, we urge road users to respect the bus lanes and refrain from misusing them,” he said.
