Scania pilot-tests renewable fuels and electrification solutions with Iskandar Regional Development Authority for the Iskandar Malaysia Bus Rapid Transit.
Scania Continues to Lower CO2
Scania will be test-running two buses over the 20-kilometre loop route from 11th to 15th April – the 10-metre Bio-diesel for scheduled passengers, and the 12-metre Electric development project for Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA)’s technical team only. The 15-metre High Capacity bus is also available for test ride exclusively for IRDA.
The launch was officiated by Datuk Ir Haji Hasni Haji Muhammad, the Chief Minister of Johor cum co-Chairman of IRDA and Prof Datuk Ismail Ibrahim, the Chief Executive Officer of IRDA. Representing Scania Malaysia was Heba Eltarifi, Managing Director of Scania Southeast Asia.
The 10-metre Bio-diesel Bus from Scania runs on B100. FAME-prepared Scania buses run on all blends of diesel and biodiesel ranging from B10, B20 and even up to B100. It is environmentally friendly – lowering global emissions by reducing CO2 to limit the effects of climate change. Riding this bus will also help to increase the citizen’s wealth by spurring the rapid development of Malaysia’s palm oil industry. FAME is the abbreviation for Fatty Acid Methyl Esters which is the technical term for the bio-diesel, that is produced in Malaysia.
The 12-metre Electric Bus development project by Scania and partners eliminates tailpipe emissions and lowers noise pollution with an electric drive train. The operation is more efficient, the ride is also more comfortable and safe, creating a positive passenger experience. With brighter and more spacious interiors due to a simpler, yet advanced setup, the buses are easier to maintain and keep clean.
The 15-metre High Capacity Bus from Scania increases revenue while lowering costs for operators. The bus comes with additional seats for passengers, air-suspension, a steered rear axle, built-in safety systems, such as the Electronic Braking System EBS, Advanced Emergency Braking AEB, Manual and the Automatic Retarder System and Speed Limiter – all of which make for a safer and more comfortable urban ride for passengers and drivers alike. With the Scania Ecolution partnership option, lower fuel consumption can be achieved, as well as a reduction of CO2 emissions that limit the effects of climate change.
