Daihatsu (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (DMSB), the distributor of Daihatsu light commercial vehicles in Malaysia, announced recently that the company would carry out a Special Service Campaign (SSC) concurrently with its principal, Daihatsu Motor Co, Ltd (DMC), and manufacturer PT Astra Daihatsu Motors (ADM) to replace the connecting rod on the 3SZ engine in the Gran Max 1,500cc sold in Malaysia.
Daihatsu Announce Service Campaign
There are 1,451 vehicles involved that were manufactured from 7th March, 2018 to 10th April, 2019 and sold by DMSB. No other Daihatsu models are affected by this issue that are subject of the SSC prior to before or after the said production period.
DMC initially became aware of a potential quality-related issue after conducting routine examination, in which the connecting rods assembled to the Gran Max’s 3SZ engine were found to have a smooth crack and might possibly cause the vehicle to stall during operation. Based on investigation, it was reported that the problem occurred during the forging of the connecting rod at the production stage in the ADM manufacturing plant, Indonesia.
As a manifestation of Daihatsu’s commitment to always provide best service, quality product and assuring customer safety as top priority, owners of the involved vehicles would be notified directly of the SSC and requested to bring their vehicles to the authorised Daihatsu Service Centre to take on the necessary remedy.
Daihatsu would carry out appropriate inspection and replacement of the connecting rod in accordance with Daihatsu manufacturing standards at no charge to the vehicle owner for the parts replacement and labour. The inspection and replacement process would take about 18 hours and is subject to the work schedule at the service centre.
Vehicle owners could call the Daihatsu dedicated SSC Customer Support Line at 03-5512 3411 for further clarification and assistance.
