Why Malaysian Tech Industry is Often at Odds with Itself?
It’s 2022. Technology is extremely prevalent in the lives of everyone. Even the 90-year-olds have WhatsApp, although we suspect most older readers might draw the line at using TikTok!
In business too, no one processes invoices manually in 2022; companies interact with tech day-to-day in so many ways it’s often unnoticeable. The Malaysian ‘tech’ industry is often at odds with itself; there are many tech startups and many international players are present but cut through hasn’t been seen on anything like the scale it has in some of our closest neighbours, such as Indonesia and Singapore. One of the issues, as we see it, is the lack of adoption of tech by industry players alongside the lack of investors willing to invest in Malaysian tech (probably due to the first point).
If you look at the advent and drive of technology for the logistics sector globally, intelligent logistic solutions are now powering everything from warehousing to routing, fuel saving tech, through to exact-minute delivery notifications and automated invoicing. Tech touches everything in the logistics space, from international shipping through to individual telemetrics for a truck. Yet, in Malaysia, a country seen as a rapidly developing nation with a plethora of government and industry driven ‘industry 4.0’ initiatives, technology in the logistics sector is either strangely absent or exceptionally slow to be adopted.
