Volvo Buses and SAIC Motors Form Joint Company to Develop New Energy Driveline Systems
Volvo Buses and the Chinese company SAIC Motors have agreed to form a new joint venture company to develop driv- eline systems for new energy buses such as hybrids and elec- tric buses.
Volvo will invest 40M RMB and SAIC 60M RMB in the new Shang- hai-based company, which will operate under the name of Shanghai Green Bus Drive System Co. After securing approval from the relevant governmental authorities, a new factory and office facility in planned to be constructed and is scheduled to be fully operational by the fourth quarter of 2011.
Accelerating the development of the strategic new energy vehicle in- dustry is a top priority for the Chinese government, which is looking to develop a sustainable automotive industry and facilitate strategic leaps into the future for the Chinese auto industry. It aims to form a new energy vehicle industry chain, and to build industrial bases in a number of cities including Shanghai.
SAIC Motors says it aims to increase the use of electric vehicles and later also fuel cell vehicles, while Volvo is focused on capturing a leading posi- tion in development of new energy bus markets all around the world.
Volvo and SAIC have a history of co-operation as for the past 10 years the two companies have together successfully operated the joint venture com- pany Sunwin Bus, one of the largest city bus manufacturers in China.

富豪客车和中国上海汽车集团股份有限公司或简称上汽 (SAIC)已达成协议组建一架新合资公司，来开发用 于混合动力客车和纯电动客车的新能源传动系统。
这家由富豪出资4000万人民币，上海汽车工业(集团)公司 出资6000万人民币的新公司名为上海新能源客车动力系统有 限公司。在获得相关政府主管部门批准后，上海新能源客车 动力系统有限公司将开始动工兴建工厂和办公设施，计划在 2011年第四季度全面投入运营。
加快发展新能源汽车产业战略是中国政府的当前的首要任 务。中国政府希望通过发展，持续汽车产业，推动中国未来 汽车产业的战略跨跃。这项战略的目标是打造新能源汽车产 业链，在包括上海在内的许多城市建立产业基地。
上汽集团核心战略之一是推动新能源汽车运营，致力于成为 中国市场领先的汽车制造商，而富豪公司则集中精力打造和 确立其在全球新能源客车市场中的领先地位。
在过去的10年里，富豪与上汽集团成功经营着双方的合资公司申 沃客车(Sunwin Bus)，申沃目前是中国最大的城市客车制造商。
