 Electronic Brake System (EBS)
With EBS the electronics identify the gripping capacity for each wheel and dis- tribute the traction or braking force to the wheels with the best grip at the time. EBS comes standard with a number of additional safety features: Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Brake Assist, Traction Control (TC) and Drag Torque Control (DTC).
Anti Lock Braking System (ABS)
The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) is designed to prevent one or more wheels from locking, maintaining the ability to steer safely. Electronically con- trolled and faster than with compressed air, ABS offers short reaction times and simultaneous application reduces the total braking distance and improves safety
Brake Assist
Brake Assist helps the driver by adding extra brake pressure and making max- imum use of all available friction. The same pedal position always provides the same braking effect, irrespective of the load. Maximum decelerating in the event of emergency braking improves traffic safety.
Traction Control
Traction Control (TC) automatically prevents the drive wheels from starting to spin, which could otherwise result in instability or skidding, improving traffic safety and mobility on slippery roads.
Drag Torque Control (DTC)
DTC improves lateral stability by preventing wheels from locking during engine braking. The EBS senses that drive wheels are slipping and requests engine acceleration so that the speed of the drive wheels matches the vehicle speed. DTC improves drivability and traffic safety, especially on slippery roads.
Electronic Stability Program (ESP)
Scania’s ESP system actively controls the throttle and brakes, drastically re- ducing the risk of tipping, under-steer and over-steer. The system senses the driver's commands and the actual direction of travel of the vehicle and acts when it detects that the vehicle is at risk.
Bus Stop Brake
This is also available in combination with the Electronic Brake System (EBS). Bus stop brake applies the wheel brakes at reduced pressure on all axles. Ac- tivation and deactivation signals come from the body's electrical system, usu- ally when a door opens. The system improves passenger safety and reduces the work load on the driver.
