“Malaysia is a very important market for Scania in South East Asia,” he commented. “There is a constant growth in economy and domestic demand. The local transportation industry is now aiming to raise its profession- alism level and increase its productivity by
reducing the number of vehicles used. In addition, we foresee the number of city bus- es and coaches in the Klang Valley doubling in the next few years. Thus, we see great potential in this market.
Scania Malaysia’s total sales volume of heavy vehicles amounted to 590 units last year: 240 prime movers, 200 coaches and 150 city buses. According to Armstrong, Scania is aiming to increase its overall mar- ket share in Malaysia from 9% in 2011 to 10% this year. In the prime movers seg- ment, the company is on track to achieve nearly 30% growth.
