Tan Chong Industrial Equipment Sdn Bhd (TCIE) is optimistic of achiev- ing their sales target and increasing their bus sector market share from 30 to 40 per cent in 2013. This, TCIE expects, will be driven by its newly launched Silverbus SL 900 series, with competitive pricing from RM250,000 onwards.
Silverbus is the second international brand secured by TCIE for its bus dealership, fol- lowing representation of its first exclusive dealership for UD buses since 1978.
Speaking at the launching of the Silverbus SL 900 series, TCIE Executive Director Tan Keng Meng said the maiden entry of Silver- bus into the Malaysian market marks yet an- other important milestone in the company’s corporate history.
“With the addition of the inaugural Silverbus SL 900 series, TCIE is proud that its contribu- tion to offer innovative products and services to the nation’s road transportation system has expanded another fold. This bodes well for the company’s organic growth where we have an established track record of more than 35 years in operation.”
Elaborating on the collaboration with Xi’ An Silverbus Corporation to exclusively rep- resent their interest in Malaysia, Tan said it finally materialized after three years of ex- change of information, experience and nego- tiation. This, he said, was to ensure that the right products and specifications to meet the local demand and specific needs are incorpo- rated into the product offering.
Xi’ An Silverbus Corporation has been in
collaboration with Volvo Bus Corpo- ration of Sweden for more than 18 years in the production of the Silver- bus chassis.
The Silverbus SL 900 incorporates Volvo’s core values of quality, safe- ty and care for environment. At the same time, it utilises a significant large numbers of domestic-made parts and components based on a strict technical evaluation, thus en- suring and guaranteeing that its su- perior quality and its excellent perfor- mance meet customer requirement coupled with a competitive price and cost of ownership.
The Silverbus SL 900 chassis comes with a robust design and a Euro 3 green engine. Its 24-valve diesel en- gine offers an excellent performance with high power, high torque, low emissions, quiet running, low fuel consumption and long service life. In addition, there is a comprehensive
range of safety features, including full air suspension that provides a constant driving height for better stability and comfortable ride.
Additional safety features include the electromagnetic retarder, excellent anti- lock braking system; CAN-Bus tech- nology; electronic brake distribution and tyre pressure monitoring system, among the many, many high-end fea- tures that are central to Volvo’s strin- gent internationally renowned values.
TCIE’s target market will be mainly the express and tourist bus sector, especially the high specification luxu- ry coaches for tour and services seg- ment, where comfort and safe riding is of the top priority consideration for the owners.
Currently, the Silverbus SL 900 series is imported on a CKD basis and assem- bly of the chassis will be undertaken by TCIE’s own subsidiary.
