Hino Motors (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd have launched their upgraded award winning 500 Series medium commercial vehicles and 700 series heavy commercial vehicles for the Malaysian market. The upgrades are fo- cused on improving safety with the introduction of airbags, ABS, and updated brakes- a rarity amongst commercial vehicles.
The upgraded Hino 500 Series GH range con- sists of three models, namely the GH1JRPA, GH1JLPD, and GH1JMPA. All three 18-ton models are powered by an 8.0-litre inline-6 Euro 2 turbodiesel engine. They are also equipped with full airbrake system that will reduce main- tenance costs and improve braking efficiency. The Hino GH1JRPA model is also equipped with Antilock Braking Systems (ABS), a safety fea- ture designed to improve the stability of braking vehicles.
Other notable features of the Hino 500 Series GH Models include:-
• Full air brake -as compared to the “air over hydraulic brake” in the previous models
• Parking brake on rear wheels - as compared to the “parking brake on the transmission output shaft” in the previous models
• ABS is supplied on the long haul (highway) model, the GH1JRPA
Meanwhile, the company’s upgraded 700 se- ries, is a 4x2 heavy duty 55 ton (GCW) prime mover. It consists of two models: SH1EERA and

SH1EERG. Both models put comfort and safety as a priority with key up- grades that aim to redefine the indus- try standard.
The SH1EERG equipped with rear air suspension is uniquely designed to target sensitive cargo transporters such as petroleum tanker hauliers and electronic goods transporters. Cabin comfort is one of the major concerns among heavy commercial vehicle drivers who often travel for long distances. On the other hand, the SH Models are equipped with full floating cabins with the objective of reducing driver fatigue and helping drivers to stay alert.
Other notable features of the SH Models:
• SRS Airbag - to reduce fatalities and injuries
• Auto rear view mirror as com-
pared to previous models as
manual operation is required
• Rear air suspension – as com- pared to the spring suspension
in the previous models
• ABS - system to improve braking
efficiency on low friction road
• Parking brake on all wheels – for
better slope grip
“Hino Malaysia is always at the fore- front in promoting road safety. It is our goal to help support the gov- ernment’s initiative on road safety campaigns. In order to meet the highest safety requirements, Hino have conducted many surveys and tests among users and transporta- tion companies prior to the introduc- tion of our upgraded SH and GH models. I believe that we’re setting a new benchmark for the entire in- dustry,” said Hino Motors (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd Managing Director No- buyuki Tanaka.
