Most people tend to focus more on the go and the show but few keep an extra eye out on coming to a stop. Somehow, brakes always end up being an afterthought but they are probably the single biggest factor in preventing an untoward incident on the road.

the development of their braking products. The company recently organised a dealer incentive trip to Thailand (from 2nd to 4th November 2012) in conjunction with the Bus & Truck Expo. Dealers are given the chance to visit the massive manufacturing plant to observe the research and development in their braking products and gain a better understanding of the importance of brake pads.
All of their brake products are manufactured at their facil- ity in Thailand. Compact International has some of the most advanced equipment for the development and test- ing of the brake pads, shoes and linings. Two of the major machines in that process are the truck dynamometer and the Link Compact Data Acquisition System. The dynano- meter alone cost them almost USD2 million, a serious sign of lengths they go to produce their brake pads.
The process begins with the development of the friction material that is then tested on the dynanometer. Factors such as the operating temperature range, different vehi- cle weights, loads, energy loading, wheelbases and fade resistance can be tested before on-road testing with the improved brake pads.
Once on-the-road testing has commenced, the brake pads, shoes and linings are put through a variety of driv- ing conditions. Different driving styles, road conditions and different vehicles are tested and the data collected must reflect the results gathered from the dyno testing.
