Michelin has launched the new Michelin X Coach Energy Z to meet the difficult challenges of higher mileage, fuel efficiency, better safety and comfort as well as quiet ride. Designed especially for coaches, the X Coach Energy Z is the latest generation of Michelin truck and bus tyres that can be mounted on both the front and rear axles.
“When designing Michelin X Coach Energy Z, the main con- cern for us was how we could address the current needs of the coach operator. This is important because we are transporting people and safety cannot be compromised. Safety is deeply rooted in the Michelin product DNA,” said Beltran Yturriaga, Managing Director of Michelin Malaysia Sdn Bhd.
Besides safety, Yturriaga continued, for a peace of mind when traveling coach passengers must be able to enjoy their jour- ney, so comfort and quietness were other factors that passen- gers appreciated. Operators also want a well-rounded solution that would be cost effective. Michelin X Coach Energy was able to offer all this with fuel savings, reduced downtime and high tyre mileage. This combined performance of X Coach En- ergy Z, stressed Yturriaga, was evidence that Michelin Total Performance could ensure customers and their passengers full satisfaction when using and riding on Michelin tyres.
The 3 key characteristics of the new tyre were:
Safety: 20 per cent improvement in resistance for crown im- pacts compared to the previous model, which translated to a 20-per cent lower tyre failure and related crown, time or even at the extreme, accidents due to mishaps from crown area impact and failure.
Long-lasting usage: 20 per cent increase in casing durability due to reinforcement in the bead and crown areas resulting in a higher ratio of retreadability of the X Coach Energy Z design and a better casing value for operations, helping users to re- duce costs and have a more environmentally friendly business operation.
Although it was not common for coach operators to send their tyres for retreading after the first life in Malaysia, Yturriaga explained that the enhanced casing durability offered better casing value as the operators could opt to sell their old tyre casings to retreaders or casing collectors and have them re- treaded for other applications.
