Finland-based Tramigo is looking to take great advantage of local op- portunities in Southeast Asia after forging a manufacturing partnership with EG Industries Berhad to create a new manufacturing and logistic hub in Malay- sia. Located in Sungai Petani, it had un- dergone the trial production phase since the 2nd quarter of 2015 and is expected to commence full-scale production by the 1st half of 2016.
“We can further accelerate our expansion in Southeast Asia, increase our produc- tion volumes and shorten our delivery times with this new manufacturing hub. The Philippines is our strongest market in Southeast Asia and we have been there for 10 years. The other two key markets that we would like to focus on are Ma- laysia and Indonesia,” said Arto Tiitinen, CEO of Tramigo Ltd.
Be Prepared to Capture UBI Oppor- tunity in Malaysia
Usage-based Insurance (UBI) was on the rise, Tiitinen pointed out, especially in

countries such as United Kingdom, USA and Europe. It was on the road to become a standard offering, with more insurers of- fering it and more consumers willing to let insurers monitor their driving habits with a telematics device in exchange for poten- tial insurance savings.
Malaysia was a hotspot for the tracking industry, explained Tiitinen, as Bank Neg- ara intervened to phase out the traditional structure of motor insurance based on en- gine capacity, the so-called ‘Tariff Struc- ture’, three years ago.
“With the anticipated deregulation by 2016, insurance companies are allowed to draw up their own pricing structure to replace the current Motor Insurance Tar- iff. From what we have observed, UBI, such as Pay As-You-Drive based on mileage and Pay How-You-Drive based on driver profile, will likely take place in Malaysia. UBI is not based on histori- cal but current usage; meaning you pay for how much you drive and how you drive. Thus, there will be a big demand in usage-based information, which pro-
vides great potential for the tracking industry. ”
This was where Tramigo came into play by offering its expertise and services as a one of the world’s leading vehicle tracking device producers and solutions provider. According to him, ideally every vehicle should have a tracking device and Tramigo products could be installed and fully hidden to motorcycles, private cars, trucks, boats or any vehicle and heavy machinery. The company offered a full product, accessory and software range to fit the needs of any customer from private vehicle owners to large fleet management projects.
In Malaysia, the company was targeting small and medium fleet operators. “We have introduced T23 series tracking de- vice for about a year; the response has been very encouraging. Now, we want to introduce it on a bigger scale and it would all be made in Malaysia.”
Apart from showing the location and track, the T23 series had loads of other
