G.F. Continues to Invest in Advance Machinery and Equipm
Ho Kam Fatt., Business Development Manager of G.F. (M) Engineering Sdn Bhd
Originally known as Guan Fatt Carriage Construction, which was established in 1973, Ipoh-based G.F. (M) Engi- neering Sdn Bhd is a family owned one-stop body building company providing a compre- hensive range of services to heavy-duty com- mercial vehicle owners and fleet operators. From a humble beginning, its thriving business today is seen as a success of the leadership of two brothers, Kong Khon You and Kong Kon Keong.
Both brothers started out in the industry in the 70s as apprentices. With a focused vision, willpower and enthusiasm, both successfully overcame all the challenges to transform G.F. from a simple and crude workshop to a small and medium industry.
The services that the company provides in- clude the new box body building and new body building of rigid trucks, semi-trailers, tankers, tippers/dump trucks, low loaders, car carriers, general cargo, body repair and modification, conversion and upgrading, as well as spray painting, engine, axle and chassis repair, gen- eral services and general preparation for Pus- pakom inspection. Apart from that, G.F. is also a Persatuan Insurance Am Malaysia (PIAM) authorised collision repair workshop.
“We moved to the existing premises in Kawasan Perusahaan IGB in 2005. Located on this 7 acres of land is our office and workshop, including 2 acres of ample parking space with proper wall fencing. With adequate facilities, advance equipment and about 50 skilled employees, we are able to han- dle an average of about 20 vehicles per month,” said Business Develop- ment Manager Ho Kam Fatt.
What distinguished the company from the others, Ho revealed, was its com- mitment towards quality performance, quality products and on-time delivery. The company didn’t stop there but con- tinued to invest in technology and the latest equipment since 2000.
“To reduce the manpower and cost per body construction as well as in- crease productivity and shorten de- livery time, we have invested in au- tomated machinery and equipment to ensure our processes are streamlined and efficient. For instance, we need 5 to 6 workers to construct a tanker previously but now we need only 2 to 3 workers.”
