The Revolution of Foton and Angka-Tan Motor
Beiqi Foton Motor Co, Ltd (Foton) manufac- tures a full series of commercial vehicles, in- cluding heavy-duty and light-duty trucks, and was founded on 28th August, 1996 in Beijing, China. With year-on-year growth of 27.7 per cent, Foton’s brand value ranked first among China’s commercial vehicle enterprises for 12 consecutive years since 2004 and held the top rank in global commercial ve- hicle sales for 7 consecutive years since 2009.
As a leading global commercial vehicle manufac- turer, Foton continues to invest heavily in research, development and state-of-the-art manufacturing fa- cilities in offering automotive markets worldwide high quality vehicles powered by the latest technologies. It has the largest scale of commercial vehicle manu- facturing plants in Asia, with 11 KD factories around the world, including Iran, Pakistan, Thailand, Viet- nam, India and Malaysia.
To strengthen its position and become a global brand, Foton links with world-renowned companies such as AVL, Lotus, Bosch, Siemens and others for mutual development. The most significant interna- tional joint venture was in 2008 with America Cum- mins to form the Beijing Foton Cummins Engines Co Ltd to produce two types of Cummins light-duty, high- performance diesel engines in Beijing. It was further expanded to produce heavy-duty diesel engines up to 11.8 litres. There was also the subsequent Bei- jing Foton Daimler Automotive Co, Ltd joint venture in 2012 with Foton and Daimler holding 50-per cent ownership each. This venture manufactures Foton’s Auman series of medium and heavy-duty trucks and Daimler-licensed 490hp Euro V Mercedes-Benz OM457 heavy-duty engines.
