Petronas Urania with ViscGuard Launched in Malaysia
Petronas Lubricants Marketing Malaysia (PLMM) recently launched Petronas Urania with ViscGuard, its commercial vehicle lubricant (CVL) formulated to guard against engine deposits build-up.
This new range of diesel engine lubricants is said to prevent abrasive wear and oxidation to maintain optimal oil viscosity that is necessary to keep commercial vehicle drivers and businesses on the move.
First launched in Europe in May 2016, Petronas Urania with ViscGuard is now available in Malaysia.
Regional Head of Asia, Petronas Lubricants International (PLI), Mohd Khalid Mohamed Latiff, said: “Petronas Urania with ViscGuard is the result of our global research efforts, conducted to understand our customers’ and the end consumers’ business and transporta- tion needs.”
PLMM Chief Executive Officer Zubair Abdul Razak said: “We discovered that unplanned downtime is their biggest fear as it may lead to opportunity cost and loss of reputation. Thus, ensuring proper maintenance of their key asset, the engine, is extremely important. Petronas is committed to provide better solutions and services through understanding the importance of solving customer problems and ensuring that their business is profitable and sustainable.”
With the construction and manufacturing sector in Malaysia set to grow consistently over the next few years, there would be steady demand for commercial vehicles to support this growth. Despite commercial vehicle sales easing slightly in 2016, the market is expected to bounce back in 2017 and remain on an upward trend until 2020.
“Petronas Urania with ViscGuard not only guards the heart of a vehicle against engine deposits build-up, but also has a direct impact on the total cost of ownership for our cus- tomers. More importantly, it ensures that our customers are able to remain operational and meet their business commitment day after day,” said Zubair.
The build-up of engine deposits is a common but underestimated problem, which could 80 truck & bus news 2015/6
lead to engine failure and unplanned downtime if not addressed. Soot and ash particles exist in all engines, a by-product of diesel fuel combus- tion. Over time, they could cause oil thickening and agglomerate to form larger particles that stick to critical engine parts. These ‘silent killers’ could starve critical engine parts that require necessary lubrication and in- crease engine’s wear and tear. Over time, and aggravated by the severe operating conditions that commercial vehicles undergo, it would eventually lead to total engine breakdown.
Petronas said its Urania with Visc- Guard was engineered with robust oil film that dispersed engine deposits, while maintaining optimal oil viscos- ity for longer engine life. When tested against the latest industry standard, Petronas Urania with ViscGuard was reported to perform up to 89 per cent better at maintaining oil viscos- ity integrity under high soot condi- tions. Urania with ViscGuard also performed up to 50 per cent better in controlling carbon build-up.
Petronas Urania with ViscGuard was launched on the back of PLI’s stra- tegic growth aspiration to be among the world’s top lubricants players by 2019. Petronas said it capitalised on the upward trend in the global lubri- cants market, projected to be worth US$166.59 billion by 2021, as well as being driven by the increasing com- mercial vehicle sales and rapid in- dustrialisation in emerging countries. Locally, Petronas aimed to be the market leader by 2018.
Mohd Khalid added: “Technology is our key differentiator at Petronas. We dedicated much of our focus to hone and further sharpen our tech- nological edge. This has allowed us to leverage our strong legacy in lu- bricants technology to innovate and deliver superior products and ser- vice offerings that meet the needs of the automotive industry and our end consumers.”
