PMLOA New President Shares His Plans
In an exclusive interview with Truck & Bus News, Pan-Malaysia Lorry Own- ers’ Association (PMLOA) newly elected President Jong Foh Jit revealed that his top priority is to find a suitable location in Kuala Lumpur to set up the association’s head office.
“We sold off our building in Melaka 5 years ago, as we think it is more convenient to place our headquarters in Kuala Lumpur”, he said. “Over the years, we moved around the states for meetings and we have to hold our meetings in hotels, which is very costly. If we can have our own prem- ises, we will be able to save some costs. We hope to buy
a 3 or 4-storey shop lot, so that we can rent some of the floors out as an income to cover a certain percentage of our expenses.”
To start the ball rolling, Jong said, as he is also the Chairman of the Sarawak Lorries Transport Association, the Sarawak Lorries Transport Association will contribute RM 30,000 to the PMLOA headquarter building fund to show their sup- port. He hopes the other PMLOA member state associa- tions will follow as well, so that they can gather enough
funds to purchase the premises.
“The association belongs to everyone that involves in this industry,” Jong stressed. “Teamwork is important, and I always believe in the power of team- work. If each PMLOA member state association can contribute RM30,000, together with the amount that we have by selling off the Melaka old premises, we should have enough money to buy new premises in Kuala Lumpur.”
PMLOA will be celebrating its 25th anniversary next year. Besides the usual grand dinner, Jong said they are planning to organise a grand truck show in Kuala Lumpur in conjunction with the anniversary celebration.
In addition, Jong said, PMLOA serves as the collective voice of the trucking industry in Malaysia. Thus he says he will strive to build a closer relationship with the government through constant and active dialogue with the related organisations. He believes that by doing so, it will help the government to understand the problems and challenges that the members are facing, and work towards a better future.
