Malaysia Team Wins First Prize at UD Trucks’ Ex
The finals of the Extra Mile Challenge 2016, the UD Trucks’ global competition for UD Quester drivers, took place on November 22 at the UD Experience Center, UD Trucks headquarters in Ageo, Japan. Four regional champions from Thai- land, Indonesia, Malaysia and South Africa competed, with the Malaysia team winning top honours.
Based on UD Trucks’ brand promise, ‘Going the Extra Mile’, the Extra Mile Challenge is said to demonstrate how customers can make the most out of UD products and services. The competition focused on three key elements; pre-inspection, fuel efficiency and safety, and drivability, to improve driving skills and reduce costs and downtime.
The drivers representing each country competed in a simulated transport delivery cycle. Each practical station was judged on the following criteria: revenue, fuel efficiency, uptime and maintenance cost, and driving safety. The winning team claimed the highest profit based on transport calculations. Apart from demonstrating how UD Trucks helps achieve further business success, the Extra Mile Challenge is said to strengthen driving capability and confi- dence, contributing to safer roads and motivated drivers.
The day culminated with a special award ceremony based on the competition results. The Thailand team won ‘Best Fuel Efficient Driving’, the Malaysia team won ‘Best Pre-Check Inspection’ and the South Africa team was awarded ‘Best Driving Skill’. The overall champion was the Malaysia team.
