  Tridec Brings Safer Manoeuvring with Steer-axle Trailers
Tridec is a Jost Group company specialising in trailer axle systems and hydraulic sus- pension units. At the IAA Tridec presented its latest development in steer axle technology with its latest the EF-S steering system.
EF-S enables trailers with an extremely low trailer neck, such as milk and bulk tankers or trailers with monocoque-constructions, to be equipped with a steering system for kingpin axles. This lightweight kingpin steering system can steer a maximum of three kingpin steered axles. It allows the trailer to ne- gotiate tighter bends minimising the swing out radius and reducing the amount of scrub on the trailer tyres.
Manual steering by wireless remote-control makes the axles steer in ratio or at equal steering angles (“crab steering”). EF-S thus guarantees extra ma- noeuvrability and savings on time, fuel consump- tion and tyre wear. The EF-S steering system is simple and easy to install without enormous adapt- ing to the frame.
The combination of EF-S with an electronic system offers even more future potential. While traditional trailer axle steering systems turn the wheels de- pending on the angle between tractor and trailer, the electronic controller is able to control the hy- draulic trailer axle steering system independently of the tractor position.
The Pathfollowing Steering System (PFSS) is currently being developed, which integrates sen- sor data used by the electronic controller, so that the trailer follows the path of the tractor exactly. It would not only ensure minimum space require- ments for negotiating curves but also prevent the trailer from veering out.
Other possible applications would be the precise and safe steering of long trucks both when driving in tight circles and during manoeuvring. Backward docking on a ramp and parking in a gap, for ex- ample on ferries, becomes a child's play with the support of EF-S.
This steering system will not only minimise the space required for negotiating curves but also enhance safety, for example via the integration of blind spot sensors, the CAS (Collision Avoidance System). If the sensor detects, for example, an obstacle or a person in the driver's blind spot, the electronic control can steer the trailer automatically around the obstacle and avoid a collision.

来潜能。传统的挂车转向轴系统是靠挂车 和牵引车之间的角度来转向,电子控制器 却能独立控制挂车位置的液压牵引车。
目前,该公司正在开发路径跟随转向系统 (Pathfollowng Steering System),结合电 子控制器所采用的传感器数据 ,以便挂车完 全跟随牵引车的路径。它不仅能够确保顺利 转弯的最低空间要求,还可避免挂车失控。
其他的应用包括长卡车在行经圆环和操纵 时的精确和安全转向。有了EF-S系统,在 斜坡后退入船坞或在渡轮上泊车,都变得 犹如孩童玩游戏般简单。
该转向系统除了能降低拐弯时所需要的空 间,还可加强安全性,如通过结合盲点传 感器和CAS(避免碰撞系统)。如果传感器 在司机盲点范围内侦测到一个障碍或一个 人,该电子控制器就会自动将挂车转向, 避免障碍物和碰撞。
