The Iveco Z truck features a new generation LNG engine running on Bio-methane, which is derived from refined biogas. This fuel, which plays a key role in CNH Industrial’s quest to develop sustain- able transport modes on its path to Zero emissions, ensures low CO2 and ultra-low PM emission.
This LNG-fuelled engine develops 460 hp and 2,000 Nm torque, and features a 16-gear automated transmission with Powershift in the upper gears.
Iveco has partnered with industry giants to chase that Zero emis- sions target. Petronas Lubricants International has been working with Iveco with its Urania low viscosity engine oils: Michelin has provided its X-Line Energy, which with its AAA rating in rolling resis- tance is claimed to save up to one litre of fuel per 100km when used in long distance convoys. The tyres also feature in the connectivity technology with an embedded RFID that records the tyre’s history and can communicate with the driver and fleet manager.
Every step has been taken with this Z Truck to improve efficiency. New fuel tanks built using multi-layer insulation have been built to fit the available space and as a consequence the 1200litre gas capac- ity gives the Z Truck 60 per cent more range than the current Stralis NP, more even than a diesel vehicle.
On the safety front, the Z Truck is equipped with a full set of sensors that detect obstacles and help avoid accidents. They also enhance the possibility of autonomous driving. The driver also benefits from a heads up display of all truck func-
tions that show on the truck’s wind- screen.
The creature comforts of the cab in- clude a slide out doorway and steps that make access to the cab as sim- ple as climbing a few stairs. No more hauling up the side of the cab to gain access. Internally, the driver oper- ates from an air conditioned “bubble” that avoids the blasting air draughts of conventional systems. His living accommodation can be extended by 50cm to give a little extra comfort to access the bed, sink, kitchen, fridge and entertainment wall.
