ZF develops Three Point Strategy – See – Think – Act

As technology becomes a key element of our everyday life, so too does it permeate into everything that we create. This is no different for component manufacturer ZF than it is for anyone else. Today, technology drives development. In fact, technology drives development at such a rate that it is now arguable that development is now random rather than planned. That may change the way we think about developing new ideas and new technologies.
ZF has been transforming its operations and it now plans to become a one stop supplier of safety and efficiency solutions for commercial vehicles.
The strategy is to enable commercial vehicles to see, to think and to act us- ing fully integrated technologies that will enhance all round safety.
This has been one of the key themes at the IAA 2016 and it almost becomes dif- ficult to assess where one company’s strategy begins and another’s ends. All are now working towards the same technological answers to safety and efficiency.
ZF is strengthening its position as a major technology supplier for the com- mercial vehicle industry by providing key technology for autonomous driving.
With these competencies, ZF products will enable commercial vehicles to see, think and act. This was being clearly demonstrated using the ZF In- novation Truck 2016, which featured state-of-the- art advanced driver assist systems – including the world's first brake assist and assisted emergency steering control systems for heavy commercial vehicles. For example, al- lowing the vehicle to avoid obstacles the driver cannot see, such as the “undertaking” cyclist or the pedestrian stepping out in a blind spot.
The acquisition of the U.S. company TRW in 2015 was an important mile- stone in the expansion of ZF's capabilities in the fields of sensor technol- ogy, control electronics and mechatronic systems. This expansion continues with the acquisition of lidar system experts Ibeo and the software company doubleSlash. Additionally, ZF is continuing to develop the electrification of the commercial vehicle driveline.
Whilst industry observers and traditionalists may still ridicule the electric ve- hicle, IAA 2016 showed that the urban electric transport alternative is with us
